The Castle Bromwich 12 Day of Christmas activity has been in full swing with employees supporting a number of local charities and good causes.
D-Day Veterans Christmas Dinner
Working with the Royal British Legion and Jaguar Land Rover’s Armed Forces community we hosted a Christmas dinner at the Castle Bromwich Visitor Centre for 15 D-Day Veterans and their guests. Whilst many veterans will have busy plans for Christmas, for one or two of them this gathering would have been the only social interaction they will have over the Christmas period.
Thanks to the event the Royal British Legion support team were able to identify those who would be spending Christmas alone and ensure that this isn’t the case.
Barnardos – Toy Appeal
The Barnardos Toy Appeal started out as a simple but great idea from Associate Keith Hewitt and it quickly snowballed.
It was so successful that in the first 12 hours Keith’s phone didn’t stop ringing and we quickly secured over 500 gifts for less fortunate children in Birmingham.
We took four fully loaded cars down to the Children’s Centre and the Barnardos staff where overwhelmed by the generosity. For some of the Children this will be the only gift they get this year.
Birmingham Homeless Support Team
In the run up to December our Plant Launch team ran an appeal on behalf of the Birmingham Homeless Support Team, a non-funded organisation that operates in our city.
They collected seaming simple items most of us take for granted such as deodorant, toothpaste and sanitary products, alongside clothing and sleeping bags.
At the start of the month a team of volunteers from the plant to spent an evening on the streets of Birmingham with their homeless support workers handing out the items they’d collected.
St James Church – Dementia Christmas Dinners
For the second year running Castle Bromwich has provided volunteers to support with St. James Church’s Christmas Dinners for elderly residents in the area, many of whom suffer from dementia.
A team from Plant Quality have supported the Church to put on two Christmas lunches, putting on their aprons, serving up dinner, providing company to the guests and of course helping with the washing up.
Square Peg Activities – Christmas Collection and Santa Visit
Spurred on by the great worked they’d done early this year in decorating the charity’s offices, the team from Castle Bromwich Press Shop wanted to do more to support the organisation that work with children and adults who have an additional range of needs.
With the support of everyone in the Press Shop they ran a fundraising raffle where they raised a whopping £2151 that will be used for putting on sensory activities for the children.
The team even managed to organise a visit from the main man in red suit for their Christmas party.
Christmas Jumper Day
Raising funds for the National Children in Need Christmas Jumper Day appeal colleagues from around the plant donned their finest Christmas knitwear earlier this month.
They raised well over £500 on the day, with that figure due to increase at online donations are counted.
