Here in Halewood we recently met up with Kenneth and Deirdre McLachlan who had made the four hour journey from Ayr, Scotland to join us to see their brand new Evoque getting built.
Their love affair with JLR started 12 years ago when they purchased their Freelander 2, a car they still have now and they tell us is just as good as the first day they bought it! As we got chatting to them it became clear just how much they love their cars…
Smiling, Deirdre tells us: “The most important thing when buying our new car was that it was similar to the one we already had, as we love that car. We wanted a similar size and style and when we saw the new Evoque we though that would be perfect”. Visiting their local dealership they were really pleased with the similar size, style and comfort of the new Evoque and couldn’t wait to get to grips with the new technology!
Kenneth told us: “When we bought our Freelander 2 it was a high spec, so it was important that we got everything we already had and more! I can’t wait to have a play with some of the new gadgets, especially the clear sight ground view!”
Their Freelander had never let them down with Deirdre telling us she often felt quite smug when she worked as a school teacher, the car park of the school was in a remote area on a steep hill and in bad weather she was the only one able to park!
The couple have literally travelled England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales in their Freelander 2, with a special mention to trips to the Lake District and were sure they’d be doing the same in their new Evoque!
The Freelander 2 and Evoque aren’t the only members of the family though….tucked away in a heated garage, under a blanket (possibly with a teddy bear!) they have their other prized car, a Jaguar XK, which only comes out for special occasions!
Kenneth told us: “We’ll always have that car, we love it. When the weather is nice we’ll go out in it and just enjoy the drive”. When the couple purchased the Jaguar XK seven years ago they visited the Castle Bromwich plant to see it getting built.
They were amazed then at just what goes into running a factory, seeing the robots and just the sheer size, so they were really excited to visit again and see their new Evoque getting built. We hope they get as much joy out of this car, we’re sure they will….here’s to another fantastic 12 years!
