Halewood employee and one of our 60th anniversary diamonds, Helen Anderson, has shown that she has a talent for spotting a diamond in the rough. After conducting some research, she found that old tables and chairs from our rest areas - which were destined for the skip - could be used as garden furniture by a local enterprise group in Wales.
The 28 tables and chairs, which seat 112 people, were set to be sustainably disposed of following the recent factory rest area upgrades. However, thanks to Helen’s quick thinking, they will now be used as part of a new community project which is being led by the Enbarr Foundation.
The Enbarr Foundation is a coalition of volunteers, social organisations, businesses and the public working together to transform the Deeside area.
The Enbarr Foundation is currently transforming a derelict Grade 11 building in Flintshire, previously owned by Shotton Steelworks, into a community hub. The tables and chairs that have been placed in their gardens are already used by the public.
Helen, who is a Logistics Operations manager, in MP&L, said: “It felt such a shame to throw out the old rest area furniture, as it was still in good working order. So I reached out to my social network to see if anyone knew of any social or community projects who could utilise them - and that’s how I came across the Enbarr Foundation - through a contact of mine who had seen my post.
“I am so pleased that we have been able to donate the tables and chairs and be involved in something that will have such a big impact on the local Deeside local community.”
Helen added: "In the true spirit of the Creators' Code, we came together with Steve Hurrell and the DHL Freight team, who coordinated a risk assessment and delivered the table and chairs to Deeside free of charge.”
Vicki Roskams, Director of Enbarr Enterprises Limited, commented: “A massive thank you to Helen Anderson and the team at Jaguar Land Rover Halewood for the kind donation of these amazing tables and chairs and to the DHL team for delivering them. They will make a great addition to the site for the community to use and enjoy the gardens”.
Thank you, Helen, for being a Halewood Diamond.
Would you like to nominate a Halewood diamond like Helen? Halewood Diamonds is a new monthly feature to mark the 60th anniversary of our Halewood manufacturing plant.
Since a 60th anniversary is often referred to as a diamond anniversary, we would like to celebrate our own Halewood Diamonds - past and present - and recognise them throughout this special year for our plant.
