Castle Brom's Mark Newbold joins an elite club whilst raising money for charity.
Safety’s Mark Newbold forged himself into folklore after completing a 12-month journey to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The 46-year-old started 2018 with the goal of completing all four of the year’s seasonal Wolf Runs to raise money for Marie Curie but also claim the title of Alpha Wolf, a special title reserved only for those who complete all four events in the calendar year.
The event itself is a ten-kilometre circuit filled with running trails, obstacles, dives into cold water and trudges through muddy tracks so over the year Mark has completed the equivalent distance of a London Marathon.
Over the course of the year he has also raised £390 for Marie Curie, a charity close to his heart after cancer affected the lives of his close family and friends.
He said: “It’s been an absolutely amazing experience, not least because the start of the year seems like a long time ago so to stick to it and finally complete the last one was really satisfying.
“I’d have to do some thinking before deciding when I’d do it again because the Spring and Winter events were absolutely freezing. I’m really pleased to have done it though and to raise money for such an important charity at the same time makes me feel really proud.”
Mark’s not done with his fitness fundraising frolics though. He’s signed up for the Birmingham 10K next year with more events on the way.
In the meantime though…congratulations Mark. You howl at that moon!
