Castle Bromwich gets a gold star in our recent safety audit.
Castle Bromwich passed its recent safety audit reclassification with flying colours thanks to the efforts of everybody on site.
A team of auditors for the OHSAS 18001 classification visited the plant over three days to review Castle Brom’s safety processes and speak to associates, management and the Trade Union about the site’s approach to safety.
Padraig Bollard, BIW manager and site safety champion said: “Everyone the auditors met with were helpful and co-operative so firstly a thank you to everybody.
“They were impressed by the improvement in our metrics like Lost Time Incident (LTI) and First Time Incident (FTI) rates, LTI’s have reduced by 70% on last year, this doesn’t happen by chance.
“The improvement has been down to the hard work and commitment of colleagues on site and it’s resulted in a vastly improved result on last year.
“Challenging Attitudes to Safety (CATS) has made a big impact because everyone has taken responsibility to challenge unsafe behaviour. The site taking responsibility for its own approach to keeping Castle Brom a safe workplace is fantastic.”
Castle Bromwich health and safety manager Natalie Castilho added: “The Safety Academy has produced some great results that have contributed to this result.
“Nearly 1,000 people have been through the academy and their feedback has been great. Working side by side with the Trade Union to raise awareness of safety has been really satisfying and its helping CB on its journey to reaching Destination Zero.”
