That’s right, it’s time to celebrate all the continuous improvement work being delivered across Halewood as we welcome back our Kaizen of the Month recognition event!
Due to social distancing restrictions and the recent planned stops to production, we have been a way for a while so have some catching up to do!
But don’t worry as over the next few weeks in Team Talk, we will be getting you up to speed by showcasing our winners from the last six months.
Today it’s the turn of our fantastic February winner- Dave Scorgie, from Paint Shop, who is a maintenance supervisor on B shift.
Dave is enjoying a well deserved summer holiday so teammate Mark Romano picked up his award on his behalf along with Paint Shop manager, Mike Hughes.
Dave was inspired to raise his kaizen after becoming frustrated with the turbine locking fails on the robot spray paints which needed a new switch.
A replacement part direct from our robot manufacturers, Durr, came with a hefty price tag of £763.29, however, Dave was able to source an alternative for just £13.94!
This has resulted in a saving of £749.70 per repair and as the department has already replaced four switches this year- that’s a total saving of £2998 so far.
We have 42 Durr robots in Paint Shop, so based on the previous repair costs from Durr, if one switch from each robot needed replacing- it would have cost the business £31,847!
Great work Dave- adopting a responsible spend mindset and pushing cost efficiencies through KaIzen is a key way we can play our part in delivering Refocus at Halewood!
Second place went to Lee Lamb from Body in White.
Third place went to Robert Gutteridge from T&PPG.
Congratulations and well done to you all!
