A Solihull based Team Improvement Circle (TIC) have developed a manager's guide to the attendance management process (AMP) in an effort to streamline the process.
When the circle was first formed, the team consisting of; Beatrice Payne (circle leader), Rhianna Mills, Stephen Davis, Gemma Bravington and Ashleigh Neale all worked in the Solihull Case Management team. In their roles as Case Management Advisors, the team identified frustrations experienced by people managers, case managers and employees when it came to application of the attendance management process.
There were many examples where the process has been misunderstood or applied incorrectly - even by those who thought they had a good understanding of the process. The TIC team established it was because there was no detailed guidance on how to correctly apply the AMP.
As a result, the one stop shop management toolkit was created, which has everything you need to understand the AMP.
Prior to the creation of the AMP toolkit, staff described the AMP as difficult, confusing and complicated. Feedback we received after issuing the toolkit was as follows:
“Good for the HR team, helpful when managers ask questions as can refer them to this document.”
“Brilliant really good document, simplified it massively, clear and concise.”
“I have used this since the roll out and was so easy to use! Information all in one place.”
The toolkit can be accessed here via the People Portal.
And it includes the following:
- What is the AMP?
- Steps to take when issuing an AMP stage.
- Information on AMP recovery periods.
- Overview of exemptions to the AMP.
- Overview of the AMP appeals process.
- Steps to issue Final Counseling in the AMP.
- Steps to undertake Company Sick Pay review.
- Steps to take when an employee has triggered employment review.
