Colleagues from across Jaguar Land Rover gathered for the final of the Innovista 2019 competition at the British Motor Museum this week.
Fourteen finalists from across the business showcased their innovative ideas and projects to a panel of experienced and senior judges led by Jaguar Land Rover’s Chief Research Engineer Aram Kradjian.
Speaking at the event, Aram said: "Innovista is a unique way of bringing out the hidden talent and clever solutions from across Jaguar Land Rover.
“It was very encouraging to see the innovative culture we have, and with teamwork, technical curiosity and passion we can put amazing technology into our products and services despite the current challenges and constraints the business faces.”
In a hotly contested final, the entrants were split into three categories – Implemented Innovations, Dare To Try and Piloted Technologies. With a fourth award given to a Rising Star which was judged ahead of the finals.
This year’s winners are:
Plastic Fantastic – The team from Castle Bromwich won the Implemented
Innovations award. They found a repair method for damaged plastic parts that
meets Jaguar Land Rover’s robust plastics testing procedure.
Ghost car augmented reality navigation – The team from Research won the Dare
to Try accolade. Their ambition was to create a 3D ghost car in a vehicle’s
display, which would visually guide the driver for them to follow. Although
challenges slowed progress, the team gained numerous learnings to help benefit
future augmented reality technology.
Final Algorithmic Measure – The team from the EMC won the Piloted Technologies
trophy. They developed a thorough automated check system to predict whether an
engine produced at the site could lead to a warranty claim in the future, even if
the engine passed EMC’s cold test.
2019’s Rising Star award went to Rian Rogers from the Pilot Operations Team
for his work in developing Electronic Build Books
