Over the coming weeks, our UK teams will be hosting their local Team Improvement Circle (TIC) Conventions, where they will go head-to-head in competing for a place at the UK Regional Convention in September.
Winning Circles will then go through to present at the TIC Global Convention in Nitra, Slovakia. They will compete against circles from across all our other global sites, including: Pune, China and Brazil.
TIC is in its fourth year and recently welcomed Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME), Corporate Security & Business Protection, and our colleagues in Nitra. TIC has also been launched as a pilot scheme within a small selection of our UK based suppliers.
At local convention level, each team will have exactly 12 minutes to present their theme to a room of over 50 colleagues plus a panel of three judges.
They will share their own personal TIC journey as part of the 10 Step – Continuous Improvement process. It starts with forming a Circle, the journey guides the team through identifying opportunities for improvement, problem solving, creating an action plan, implementing and sustaining their idea, before presenting their theme back to the business.
Trevor Leeks, TIC Chairperson and the EMC's Operations Director
Why do you support and value TIC?
I’m passionate about TIC as it enables people to develop personally and professionally. It provides a sense of purpose and a targeted process to support common goals cross-functionally. As a result we’ve seen real change which benefits individuals, teams, work areas and the business.
Why is TIC so important to our business?
TIC is an incredibly powerful tool to drive change in the business. It plays a crucial role in enabling targeted and focused collaboration, supporting efficiency and building confidence in processes, tools, systems and people. This is absolutely critical in the current economic climate.
What do you want to say to those taking part in this year’s TIC?
I’m incredibly proud of all those who have helped to make TIC 2018/19 its biggest ever uptake year, in the UK and globally.
More people have got involved which shows a commitment and true tenacity amongst our workforce to make positive change. This demonstrates a passion for the future of our business and I’d like to wish everyone the very best of luck. You are already winners, whether your journey ends at the local conventions, or whether you make it through to the regional convention, or beyond.”
What’s your advice to others who want to take part?
Get involved. Speak to those who have taken part before and learn from their experiences. TIC offers an opportunity for growth and to make a difference. For some it’s been a game changer and rekindled their passion for learning and development. For others it’s enabled them to gain new skills, and give them confidence for future career progression.
Over the coming weeks, we will share the TIC Local Convention highlights, demonstrating those who are truly committed to improving our business for a stronger future.
In the meantime, why not read about some of the successes other teams across the business have had thanks to TIC.
