In these unprecedented times we’ve been sharing stories of colleagues going above and beyond and we’re delighted to share the story of a team of Production Leaders who usually work in Trim & Final but in recent weeks have turned their skills to working for Business Protection, so that we have enough people to look after our site whilst many of us aren’t there!
The team who are made up of, Chris Clarry, Chris Thomas, Zac Simmons, Steve Gallagher and John Williams told us how working for Business Protection is just a little different to the day job.
John told us “the factory becomes a very different place when the lights are out, it’s almost like the Blair Witch Project! Every object takes on a different shape in the dark. We’ve gone from production targets and ensuring our teams have what they need to carry out their daily work to protecting our valuable assets and the Halewood site.”
The team have learnt a lot in their short time working for Business Protection, telling us they are keeping very fit walking the perimeter of the site – which takes them the best part of an hour! They found out that the BP team are trained to firefighter standard and they’re very impressed with the onsite fire engine. They’ve also found out that Halewood has A LOT of rooms and even more light switches for them to turn off.
We’re really grateful to this team – who answered Business Protections call for support to help whilst the site would be mostly empty. Zac told us, “the reason I volunteered was to give a little back to the business in a time of need. Over the past six years working for JLR has allowed me and my family to have a nice house, nice holidays, and financial security. But right now I think it is a time for all of us to come together and do our bit to make sure we get through these difficult times and come back stronger than before.”
Steve agrees with Zac, telling us, “the company has looked after me, providing a stable job and a secure future and at the moment it’s also getting me out of the house and free from home schooling my three kids!”
John Williams shares his colleague’s reasons for why he’s supporting BP and Halewood has also supported his son and fiancée who are both NHS doctors, John told us, “my son and his fiancée were meant to be going on a trip of a lifetime but they’ve swapped their sun loungers for scrubs to support the NHS through this terrible time. They’re both looking after people with Coronavirus and were struggling for PPE. John managed to get some much needed PPE from Halewood through his Manager Ian Holohan which they’re really grateful for.”
Everyone is doing everything they can at the moment to support each other and this team have really stepped up to do their bit in these unprecedented times. Well done to the whole team – we’re all very proud of you here in Halewood.
