A team from the Body Shop has been flying the RESET flag at Halewood with their brilliant ideas and problem solving to drive out waste and reduce costs.
Danny Murray, Jay Kelly, Robbie Jones and Tom Dwyer have really embraced the RESET mind-set by thinking differently to drive efficiencies at Halewood and turning words into action through kaizens and their can-do attitude.
Jay Kelly from the team was tasked with moving the skills school in the Body Shop to a more central location and making it bigger to accommodate the increase in Continuous Improvement activity through RESET.
The school needed a new floor and after getting a quote from a contractor for £4000 Jay, a former builder by trade, took matters into his own hands and decided to fit the floor himself using his skills and trade discount for materials – saving £3600!!
Jay said: “I was a builder before working at Jaguar Land Rover so I can bring those skills to the table meaning the floor cost £400 instead of £4000! There are so many people in the factory with skills we could tap into instead of using contractors all the time. We should be using those skills to reduce costs and doing more in-house – let’s supply ourselves – it also gives people a sense of ownership and pride as you think “I did that!”
