Last week we were joined by Kaizen royalty from across the plant as we hosted our annual Kaizen recognition event and unveiled our 2020/21 winner!
It was Trim and Final’s Lee Bryant, group leader on Line 9, who took home the crown for his incredible idea which saw him create a 3D printed multi-spindle socket.
These are the sockets which go inside the multi-spindle guns used to hand start the nuts onto the wheel studs on the wheel hub, during production.
By designing and printing the sockets in-house, Lee’s team can now produce a full set for £80 instead of buying them in for £3000 - which all plays a big part in driving down our Delivered Cost Per Car.
Lee said: “I’m really chuffed to be named Kaizen of the Year as I know there has been a phenomenal Kaizen effort across Halewood these last twelve months.
“I’d like to thank all the associates on my line for working with me on this and for their continued feedback which has been key to getting it to where it is today- allowing us to make a significant cost saving for the business.
He added: “A huge thank you also to David Brocklebank, from Body in White, who designed the CAD files for us on his 3D printer. We couldn’t have done it without him, so it’s been a real team effort from both departments.”
Halewood Operations Director, Trevor Leeks, who presented the award to Lee, said: “Last year was a record-breaking year for Kaizens with 7,200 raised so the bar was set really high.
“We had a tough decision on our hands choosing a winner so Lee should feel proud of himself and his team for all their hard work to improve efficiency and quality at Halewood.”
Continuous Improvement through Kaizen is a key way that associates can play their part in Refocus- Jaguar Land Rover’s global transformation programme. Please continue to share ideas and best practice as you know your processes better than anyone.
A huge well done to our runners up: Clare Johnson from Trim & Final and Dave Scorgie from Paint Shop.
Third place went to: Paul Dilsworth; Mark Holian; John Morley; Bradley Chilvers, Stephen Kelly (Trim & Final) Kev Tinman and Rob Fewtrell (Body in White).
