The Jaguar I-PACE has been named UK Car of the Year 2019.
Having collected the top prize in the Executive Car category
in February, the all-electric SUV went up against Alpine A110, Volvo XC40 and
Suzuki Jimny to claim the prestigious prize, becoming the third winner in the
last six years to be battery-operated.
Collecting the award was Jaguar Land Rover’s UK Managing
Director Rawdon Glover, said it is an incredibly proud moment for the business,
adding: “This car was conceived, designed and engineered in Britain, so to have
a selection of the nation’s leading automotive journalists vote it as the
overall UK Car of the Year against some stiff competition is a special moment
for us.”
The judging panel, consisting of 29 of the most respected UK
automotive journalists, were quick to compliment the I-PACE’s dynamics and
interior.
John Challen, Director of the UK Car of the Year Awards, said:
“As manufacturers take electric vehicles more seriously, Jaguar is leading the
pack with I-PACE, which offers fantastic range and performance as well as
stylish and spacious interior for driver and passenger.”
While TV presenter Jonny Smith was quick to praise Jaguar’s
first electric vehicle, adding: “Few traditional manufacturers can match the I-PACE
for ground-up ground-breaking design and tech. A wonderful combo of unique
design, spirited driving behaviour and useful EV range/rapid charge capability.”
