The Jaguar I-PACE has been named Germany’s Car of the Year for 2019.
The all-electric SUV collected the prestigious German award after
the judging panel commended its performance, style and driving dynamics.
Accepting the accolade on the night was Jaguar Land Rover’s
CEO, Professor Dr. Ralf Speth.
“We are extremely proud to receive this honour from the
German media for our first fully electric vehicle. To get such an award in the
homeland of premium brands is very precious,” he said.
Competing against 59 other vehicles, the jury of 12 expert
journalists narrowed the field down to a final five, before putting each through
a series of tests on the road and the race track.
Jens Meiners, jury member of the German Car of the Year
Awards, said the Jaguar I-PACE is not only the first premium electric vehicle
from an established manufacturer but it uses the electric vehicle architecture
to its advantage.
“Its performance is impressive, and its design and
practicality stand out, which is why the I-PACE ultimately was the winner
against strong opposition.”
The I-PACE overcame stiff competition from the Audi A6,
Volkswagen Touareg, Peugeot 508 and the hydrogen-powered Hyundai Nexo.
