Jaguar Land Rover completes the double at the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Supply Management Awards 2019.
More than 1,000 peers from the procurement and supply chain profession came together at the Grosvenor Hotel in London to celebrate the many successes across the industry.
On the night Global Purchasing’s Trading Division and Non-Production Purchasing collected the awards for Supply Chain Integration and Global Sourcing respectively. Jaguar Land Rover was also shortlisted for five other awards too.
Trading Division collects Supply Chain Integration
Trading Division’s Direct Ship project was commended by the judges for its well thought out plan that gives many business benefits. They also acknowledged the cross-functional working and the IT changes required to get the job done. In the process the team beat competition from Nationwide Building Society and the UK Government’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory.
The project aimed to optimise the supply chain by re-routing parts from Japan directly to the manufacturing plant in China. Thanks to an IT change, the team ensured the parts could be shipped directly from supplier to the plant with the transaction going virtually via the Trading Division in the UK.
The result was a cost saving of approximately £85 per car and a reduction in freight time from 23 weeks to 23 days.
Reuben Chorley, Jaguar Land Rover’s Trading Division Director, said: “This a fantastic result for the team. A true reflection of their hard work and dedication to solve a complex problem with many challenging issues.
“This is also another important step in the growth of Trading Divisions capabilities to deliver a world class global supply chain for all international manufacturing plants.”
NPP collects Global Sourcing accolade
Non-Production Purchasing won the plaudits of the judges for its Customer Value Driven by Procurement project. The panel commented that it was great to see customer experience at the forefront which is also providing great results.
The team took on the challenge of trying to improve the experience customers have when using Jaguar Land Rover’s Roadside Assistance Services, while controlling costs and providing consistency across the world.
They took the fragmented offering and conducted the first global tender for the services covering 41 countries in the process. Thanks to improving Service Level Agreements and aligning all the commercial and non-commercial elements before the negotiations, NPP was able to deliver a cost saving of 25 percent while ensuring consistent service and experience for customers.
Andy Smith, Global Purchasing Director for Non-Production Purchasing, said: “This is a fantastic result which demonstrates NPP’s ability to be creative, innovative and deliver significant value to Jaguar Land Rover.”
