Jaguar has submitted a formal application to the Oxford English Dictionary encouraging it to update its definition of a car.
The social campaign points out that the dictionary's current definition defines a car as: “A road vehicle, typically with four wheels, powered by an internal combustion engine and able to carry a small number of people.”
This would rule out the current European and World Car of the Year - the Jaguar I-PACE - being defined as a car.
Following the submission of the application, Jaguar UK tweeted the following:
‘How can the 2019 World Car and European Car of the Year, not be a ‘car’ at all?
The current @OxfordWords online definition doesn't apply to the all-electric #Jaguar #IPACE.
