A career in retail management was left behind when team leader in petrol assembly Jon Wren joined the EMC nearly four years. He says he knew straight away he’d made the right decision.
Jon was named Employee of the Month for July, for his involvement in an engine rework project.
“I took the decision to join the EMC as I knew a few people who had applied and got jobs here. They encouraged me to apply. I’d gone as far as I could working in retail and was ready for a change with a company where I thought there would be opportunities to progress.
“Right from the very first weeks, during the induction process, I got a feel for the way the business treated its employees and I was impressed.
“I’d never worked in manufacturing before, so I had no idea what the environment would be like. I started off in the diesel assembly hall, and then progressed to be a zone champion and a team leader. For my next step, I’d like to progress towards a process leader position.
“My wife works as a pediatric nurse at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, so it’s quite funny when some of my younger colleagues, who have young children come to work and say they’ve met my wife.”
Runners-up in the July competition were Rob Deeming and Ricardo Morrison, for their organisation of the David French Memorial Football Tournament and Simon Walters, for his work supporting the machining hall to reduce costs using data to drive tool life improvements.
