A one-off Land Rover Defender is being rebuilt meticulously in Selfridges flagship store this week.
The Defender Works V8 will form the centrepiece of the
new-look menswear department on the first floor of the Oxford Street department
shop, as a team of technicians from Land Rover Classic reassemble the vehicle
in full-view of the public.
To get the specially commissioned Land Rover up to its new
home, the vehicle had to be dismantled and the chassis rolled through the first
floor window, before a team of Land Rover Classic technicians rebuilt the
Selfridges Edition Defender Works V8.
Tim Hannig, Director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic, said:
“Our skilled engineers and craftsmen can tailor vehicles to meet any request,
from applying unique paintwork or interior trim to delivering far-reaching
“The Selfridges Edition shows what can be achieved and we
can’t wait to see it take pride of place in the famous department store.”
The Land Rover will remain under covers until Selfridges officially
opens its refreshed men’s department on 29 October. The Defender, which started
life as 2016 110 Pick Up was transformed into a soft-top featuring a branded
hood in trademark Selfridges yellow and given a contrasting Bronze Green paint
The Selfridges Edition also is fitted with a folding
windscreen and half-height doors to complete the open-air look. Inside features
period-style seating finished in chocolate leather upholstery with ivory
cross-stitching, and finished off with the charming Jaguar Land Rover Classic
