A Halewood Team Improvement Circle (TIC) has created a touring food donation station, on wheels, which is being trialled in the rest area opposite the Admin People Centre (G30) this week.
Food for Thought, made up Ben Bench, David Harrison, Yanek Arscott, Joe Benson and Robert Bruchez Corbett, together with our Kaizen teams, have built this fantastic portable collection box which has been made from our repurposed Covid protection equipment.
This new sustainable solution will help Halewood to generate as many donations as possible for our neighbours at Knowsley Foodbank, who feed thousands of families in our local communities every year.
As well as food, if you are unable to get to the station this week, employees can donate money via Food for Thought’s Just Giving page, which is aiming to raise an additional £500 for Knowsley Food Bank.
The station will be trialled in other locations in the coming weeks but the team’s intention, as part of their ongoing TIC journey, is to make more stations and roll them out across the rest areas around the plant.
Speaking about the campaign, Dave Harrison, from Food for Thought said: “We are experiencing the worst cost of living crisis in our lifetime. Food, fuel and energy prices are spiralling, and more and more people are turning to foodbanks like Knowsley for support.
“We produce exceptional products on a daily basis for our customers and as a workforce, we can also make a big difference by supporting our local communities. Having a donation station and contributing to this cause, even if it’s just one tin or packet, will help us to do that.”
Asked about their experience of taking part in TIC, Ben Bench said: “TIC has given us the opportunity to develop personally and do things we have never done outside of work before.
“Working with charities is something we were keen to do but didn’t have any experience of so it’s challenged us and is allowing us to help others by raising awareness of the importance of foodbanks across our workforce.
“As we strive forward with our new company purpose, to deliver the exceptional with soul- our communities are at the heart of that and how we as employees can support others outside of our factory walls.”
