The15th annual National Apprenticeship Week starts today which is seven-day celebration of apprenticeships, taking place between 7th-13th February 2022.
This year’s theme is ‘Build the Future’ so we caught up with former JLR apprentice, Olivia Robinson, who tells us why her apprenticeship has given her the right ‘tools for the job!
Olivia has recently finished her four-year apprenticeship and now has a permanent role at Halewood, working in the electrical maintenance team in Press Shop.
She said: “I decided to go down the apprenticeship route as I wanted to do something practical- I’ve always wanted to work in manufacturing and felt that University wasn’t right for me.
“I researched and applied for apprenticeships with different companies, but I really wanted to get one with JLR, after completing the Young Women in the Know program, and couldn’t believe it when I got the call to say I had been successful.”
Asked how she found the training, Olivia said: “After the first year of training in the college, I started in the Press Shop. Everything was new and a different environment to what I had ever known before because it was mostly men, and I was also the youngest in my group.
“After getting over this initial shock, it actually helped me to grow and develop in confidence as it took me straight out of my comfort zone.
“Everyone really looks after you at Halewood and you feel supported. I have learned so much in terms of job skills and have been given the chance to work on lots of different projects in different areas of the business.
She added: “Starting an apprenticeship is the best choice I could have taken for my future, and I am glad to be where I am right now!”
