Abdus works as a Facilities and Development Engineer in the Paint Shop. He completed his degree in Chemical Engineering before starting at Halewood three years ago. He started in AME launching new cars before moving to the Maintenance department last year, which he really enjoys as he gets the opportunity to get his hands dirty more often! Abdus was born and still lives in Manchester and his family originate from Bangladesh.
The Islamic Society Network in Halewood is currently only a small network, but the network is much larger in the Midlands and Abdus has found a lot of support with that group, telling us, “it’s a great group to share your experiences with, they have a weekly newsletter, they have training on things like how to lead your Friday prayers, they organise meals and just offer a great support network, this is something that I’d like to try and recreate at Halewood, connecting people together.”
When Abdus first started at Halewood, we were just in the process of setting up the quiet rooms, which is something that Abdus really appreciated as it helped him to still complete his faith whilst at work. Abdus shared, “The network is a really good opportunity to meet likeminded people, sometimes explaining to people about the Muslim faith can be difficult, for example our holy day is a Friday, whereas people usually think it would be a Sunday, so just raising awareness and explaining differences can really help in getting people to understand.”
