The new Land Rover Discovery Sport’s interior has been designed and engineered with versatility and practicality in mind.
At its core is Land Rover’s new mixed-metal Premium Transverse Architecture. It gives the new vehicle a 2,741mm wheelbase and compact suspension design, which allows greater ride comfort, more storage and offers an enhanced 5+2 seat layout.
Getting to grips with the new seats
The new three-row seating layout delivers a more flexible design with four core options across all the trims, while the 40:20:40 second row split offers greater versatility. Second row seats on each model are now able to slide, fold and recline.
This will pay dividends in the passenger comfort stakes, with the second row able to offer 968mm of legroom and 655mm for occupants seated in the third row. The stepped roof and flat floor also ensure headroom of 984mm and 875mm in the second and third row respectively.
Storage galore in the new Discovery Sport
The boot capacity is 897 litres, with this figure increasing to 1,794 litres when the second row seats are folded flat, while the inclusion of a cargo net as standard stops loose items from rolling about.
Item storage has increased by 25 percent over its predecessor, with the new Discovery Sport getting a larger central cubby box offering 7.3 litres of space and a removable cup holder tray, and redesigned door bins. New cupholders and re-positioned storage spaces for third-row passengers mean there is now a place for everything, with USB and 12-volt charging points located conveniently around the cabin.
The new Land Rover architecture has also allowed the updated Discovery Sport to gain a 20 percent larger fuel tank and 40 percent bigger AdBlue tank.
Paul Cleaver, Discovery Sport’s Chief Programme Engineer, said: “Design is about more than how something looks. Good design is intuitive, user friendly and makes your life better.
“That is exactly what sets the Discovery Sport apart. Not only have we optimised the interior space, but by making it smarter with new technologies, we have made it the perfect family SUV.”
