A team from our Sports Car Facility have made a great start to Castle Bromwich’s RESET effort having already realised a saving of £8.67 per vehicle by working with our MP&L colleagues to reduce unnecessarily sequenced parts delivery.
Before Covid-19 shutdown Izzy Farrell, (of regular People Talk magazine fame) had questioned why we were paying to sequence the harness part that arrives in her workstation and raised the cost saving idea to de-sequence the items hoping to reduce cost and speed up lineside parts delivery.
“The part gets brought into the area and I wondered what value sequencing it was bringing to the process,” said Izzy. “So I raised it as a kaizen idea with the team.”
With the support of Prity Patel, Material Flow Analyst in our ML&P team they began to investigate the opportunity to reduce the cost associated with the supplier sequencing, packaging and delivery costs. Unfortunately, as the improvement idea began to take shape, a Covid-19 shaped spanner was thrown in the works meaning they had to temporarily put the idea on ice.
On his return to the plant to support preparations for the Castle Bromwich restart Jason Dunne, Production Manager in Sports Car was able to pick up the project and inspired by Izzy’s idea began to work with MP&L’s Luke Peterson to look at other processes where they could replicate it too.
As of this week the team have identified a fantastic £8.67 from every F-TYPE we build, a figure that will soon mount up into a huge cost saving for the area.
“Thanks to Izzy for the initial inspiration and the support of Prity and Luke in the MP&L team we have been able to work together to identify these savings by de-sequencing parts and there’s still room to find more now we are back up and running,” said Jason.
Congratulations to the team on making such a quick contribution to our CB RESET efforts. If you’ve got an idea and want to share then please let us know by emailing cbcomms1@castlebromwich.com.
