The Range Rover Velar has won the World Car Design of the Year title at the 2018 World Car Awards.
The latest member to join the Range Rover family bridging
the gap between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport, follows in the Jaguar
F-PACE’s steps by taking the crown on.
Dr Ralf Speth says that the Velar is an outstanding and
superior SUV, with a compelling modernity, eye-catching design and a clear
focus on sustainability, adding:
“The F-TYPE, Evoque, F-PACE and now the Range Rover Velar
wins the World Car of the Year design award. This means a lot to us. I want to
thank our Velar team for their passion and commitment, for going the extra mile
to move boundaries for extraordinary solutions.”
The luxury SUV overcame the Volvo XC60 and Lexus LC500 to
claim the award, which was voted for by a jury compromising of 82 motoring
journalists from 24 countries, with the winner announced at the New York Motor
Show.
Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer Gerry McGovern says the
Velar brings a new dimension of modernity to the Range Rover family, and shows the
continued evolution of our design philosophy, adding:
“We’re honoured that the jury recognised the tireless
endeavours of our designers and engineers in delivering a vehicle with
compelling design, tailored technology and relevant innovation which come
together to create a vehicle of instant desirability.”
