Transforming our business and committing to quality through small, continuous improvements is what Refocus is all about. Randstad Associate, Stuart Bevin, has been doing just that – using recent non-production time and some smart thinking to improve his and his colleagues’ work stations, ensuring trolley dashes are a thing of the past for Solihull FA2 Line 3.
Committing to quality through small, continuous improvements is what Refocus is all about. FA2 Associate Stuart Bevin has been at Solihull since March 2015, initially working for Manpower and more recently Randstad.
During recent non-production time in FA2, Stuart has not only been carrying out rework on WIP vehicles, but thinking up Kaizens to improve his work area.
When it came to tidying his trolley through 5S, he realised he could not only make it tidier, but more efficient too.
“My station is quite far away from the parts stillage, so I realised that if I could get everything I needed in one place, I could save some time off my process.
“I started by going through 5S on my trolley, building different compartments so there would be a place for everything, but was still left with a gun that was resting on the side. Joao, Trim & Final’s Tech Manager, liked what I’d done but challenged me to find a safe way to store the gun on the trolley too. I went to Screwfix, bought a few brackets and it worked liked a charm.”
As well as being more convenient, Stuart has saved four seconds off his process time. That’s a total of 12 minutes of walking time to and from his station per shift! That means he’s got more time to ensure quality at point of fit for every car – and it’s an improvement he’s been able to share across the work group.
“The other guys in my work area have been helping out over in FA1 while I’ve been doing rework here, so I thought I may as well keep myself busy and help them out by doing the same with their trolleys as well.”
Stuart’s success has been celebrated outside of the plant, with Randstad colleagues also championing his willingness to go above and beyond, but modest Stuart
Congratulations Stuart for your commitment to improvement and refocusing on quality.
