Leading the session in Hokkaido at the Sapporo Soccer Amusement Park was Japan’s captain Michael Leitch and Australian legend George Gregan, as the pair ran through a number of drills with the kids in front of the media.
In Okinawa, current Japan fly-half Yu Tamura ran the sessions, close by to where the national team trains. Speaking on the day, he said: “These events will inspire more and more kids in Japan to play rugby. I would love to join in whenever I can.”
The Rugby World Cup 2019 kicks off with hosts Japan facing Russia in Tokyo on 20 September, before facing Ireland, Scotland and Samoa, as 20 nations battle it out to be crowned World Champions on 2 November in Yokohama.
