Last Wednesday (14 October) marked a major milestone for Team Halewood as we finally entered the world of High Voltage Electrification Technology, after our first Plug in Hybrid Vehicle (PHEV) was given the green light to be shipped to customers!
We already make two incredible products at our plant in the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport but by giving our customers the option of having these in a PHEV form, we are making our cars even more desirable and competitive.
The popularity of PHEV is increasing across the UK, as they provide car owners with large savings on fuel, as well as helping to reduce the carbon footprint, so as a business, we must respond to this growing market demand which is why Wednesday marked such a momentous occasion for us as it means we can start shipping PHEV cars out and start selling!
Talking about the launch, Mike Taylor, senior launch lead, said: “Getting the OK to Ship approval is huge for us- it’s been a long road from starting back in June 2018 but we did it!
“This ‘new PHEV kid on the block’ is considerably different to the cars we’ve been building over the last eight years, so it’s fair to say it’s come with its challenges, such as having to respond to changes in TAKT time and finally the impact of Covid 19.
“However the sheer hard work and dogged commitment of the Halewood manufacturing launch teams to make the vehicle build easier for our workforce has been second to none.
“A big thank you to everyone for the part you have made towards making our electric dreams a reality and this marks the start of exciting times ahead at Halewood.”
