In response to feedback from the Halewood Women in Engineering & Allies (WiE&A) and Gender Network (GEN) group, Unite the Union and the company have been working on a plan to improve representation for female colleagues and work towards a more inclusive workplace.
We are pleased to announce the introduction of three new Women’s Shop Steward roles. These working steward roles will include one position available for each main production shift (A&B) and one to represent skilled members. Women interested in standing for election can do so in these specific roles, or have the option as usual to stand in their own constituency. The three Women’s Shop Steward roles will be elected by all female employees across the plant meaning females who are members of the TU will have two votes – one for their own constituency representative and one for their shift or skilled women’s rep.
This is a really exciting and important step forward. It will mean that for the first time in our history there is a guarantee there will be female shop stewards at Halewood! There is already a small network of female Unite reps across our other sites and Unite will offer training, support and mentoring for these positions.
Elections will take place at the same time as the main steward elections - nomination forms will be available from the TU office at stanchion L2 from Tuesday 1st March 2022. The closing date for nominations will be 15th March 2022. Starting date for the ballot process will be from 21st March 2022 with the ballot count week commencing on 4th April 2022.
If you are interested in standing for election, just want to find out a bit more, or have not previously been a member of the TU and now want to join, please contact the convenor on 4429 or e mail ksmit110@jaguarlandrover.com. And remember – support your sisters and use your vote!
