Solihull restaurant chefs and winners of the ‘Compass Chef of the Year 2019’ award, Phil Jones and Dave Millman, have cooked their way to the international Culinary Olympics.
Last week Solihull restaurant head chef Phil Jones and Colleague David Millman fried, baked and cooked their way past 800 other Compass employees to be crowned Compass Chef of the Year 2019 in the business and industry category. The triumphant pair won a food tour of Gothenburg, Sweden but more importantly an invitation to compete in the prestigious Culinary Olympics 2020.
With over 20 years of experience, Phil and David wowed judges with their winning dishes of pan-Asian duck and Thai fish bon-bons, earning a coveted place in the world Culinary Olympics in Stuttgart next year. Here they will represent Compass, the UK’s largest food and support services firm, facing off against more than 2,000 other professional chefs from 40 countries for the top title of the ‘world cup of culinary’.
This year was the first time the Solihull duo had entered the annual Business and Industry Chef of the Year competition, run by Compass Group UK & Ireland and open to any Compass employee.
The pair now hope to put their professional plaudits into practice in their day-to-day work in the Solihull kitchen, working alongside what Phil describes as a ‘passionate and motivated team’.
Phil and David are also relishing the prospect of competing for the gold medal representing Solihull and Jaguar Land Rover at the Culinary Olympics next year, saying that to win it would be ’the ultimate achievement’.
