We invested £4m in our Solihull plant in 2017, ahead of its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) production.
Since the start of the programme, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) has thoroughly planned our investment to ensure it is robust and sustainable, as the location transforms into the factory of the future.
So far, our Solihull plant has:
• Trained over 400 people on the PHEV 003 health and safety requirements
• Enabled 50 people to attend a two-day external, authorised and senior-authorised training session
• Provided 30 operatives with the training to achieve Class 1 and PHEV driver permits to assist in the build of PHEV.
The early and prototype-builds of these vehicles started in March 2017 and will continue in the lead up to Job 1.
By the time the plant starts mass production, it would have built nearly 3,000 PHEVs, which will be used across our business by Engineering for new model testing.
Mark Barker, Plant Launch Manufacturing Manager, said: “The challenge of building PHEV vehicles through Final Assembly 1 has required excellent teamwork between departments, including: Manufacturing, AME, Plant Launch, Material Planning and Logistics, Engineering, and New Model Programmes. The success of launching this vehicle is a key point in the history of Land Rover, taking us to a new place in terms of technology and competitiveness within the market.”
