This month Halewood hosted the Speed of Sight organisation at our Land Rover Experience Off-Road track.
This charity offers driving experiences for disabled children and adults across the UK, inspiring self-confidence, social interaction, physical and mental well-being
“These opportunities boost confidence as well as physical and mental well-being and play an important part in rehabilitation. Thanks to Jaguar Land Rover and Land Rover Experience Halewood for hosting this event and helping us offer life-changing and empowering opportunities to our participants today.” said co-founder Mike Newman, the fastest blind man on the planet on land and water who holds nine Guinness World Records.
During the day we hosted 10 visually impaired locals from Bradbury Fields, four Halewood Excellence Award winners (Phil Briscoe; Carl Pollock; Paul Donnahey and David Hurst), three Halewood armed forces representatives (Mike Burton; Miles Stammers and Darren Gethin) and 12 year old Luke who is the son of Halewood employee Mike Hill.
Despite the constant drizzle nothing could dampen the spirit of our volunteer drivers. Our armed forces reps and our award winning employees each got two laps of the Halewood track.
The first was driven under normal driving conditions but the second lap was completed blindfolded. This gave our employees the opportunity to experience the challenges that visual impairment can have.
