Jaguar Land Rover’s venture capital arm, InMotion, has had a very busy year by backing six businesses that are aiming to change the way we travel.
But it is the
emergence of Studio 107 that is allowing the business to create new mobility
solutions quicker.
Working
closely with Jaguar Land Rover, incubator business Studio 107 will help new urban
mobility services start-ups grow and develop quickly, meaning new products and
services that meet changing consumer demands can be launched to market faster.
Its first success was the unveiling of Carpe, the unlimited, all-inclusive car
subscription model targeting high mileage drivers with Jaguar or Land Rover
vehicles for a monthly fee.
Lars
Klawitter, Studio 107’s Managing Director, said: “Launching new product
offerings through Studio 107 reflects not only the rapid pace the sector is
moving at, but InMotion’s agility in responding to changing consumer demands.
“We have a really
exciting new pipeline of new products and services in development, and we
greatly look forward to the opportunities 2019 will present.”
2018 also saw
InMotion extend its reach towards active outdoor experiences, alongside its
continued investment in urban transportation, mobility and travel, taking the
company’s portfolio to 15. The six new additions include:
Voyage – US-based self-driving community taxi service,
which will allow users to summon an autonomous car to their door and transport
them to their chosen destination
FATMAP – create 3D-mapping aimed at those who enjoy the
outdoors, allowing them to navigate off-road across all-terrain safely and
easily
Transit – a mobile application designed to help people live
and travel around cities without using cars
Arc – the creators of Vector – the world’s first
fully-electric motorcycle with Human Machine Interface
Festicket – the world’s largest online portal for music fans
to discover and book tickets and travel packages for music festivals worldwide
WeTrip – a social travel platform that personalises
information about attractions according to users’ travel preferences
This year also
saw InMotion’s first exit since its foundation in 2016, with the sale of
enterprise carpooling business SPLT, which was sold to Bosch in February.
InMotion
Ventures Managing Director Sebastian Peck, said 2018 has been memorable for a
number of reasons with existing portfolio companies growing and prospering,
allowing InMotion to reinvest and continue to support each member. He adds:
“It has been
an exceptional year for developments and breakthroughs in the urban mobility
and premium lifestyle experience sectors which is reflected in the new
additions to our investment portfolio.”
