The sun was shining and the birds were singing when a team of eight willing volunteers from the EMC took part in a project to support Coalbrookdale-based Small Woods.
The day was organised by Danny Temple, PTO CoE MP&L and followed a similar activity with the organisation that took place as part of the facility’s 12 Days of Christmas campaign in 2018.
Well over half of the UK’s small woodlands are neglected, overlooked and undervalued. Therefore, the vision of Small Woods is to see small woodlands valued for the many benefits they bring to a sustainable society and to help achieve their better management to make the most of their benefits. In particular, Small Woods provides support and advice to the hands-on woodland owner, manager and enthusiast.
The organisation is also committed to training the next generation of people to work in small woodlands through apprenticeships and courses. Most recently, it has committed to reclaiming woodland, for use by deprived areas of the local community, in and around its Shropshire site.
Danny said: “The guys worked incredibly hard. They erected an amazing 77 posts during the day to help create a fence at The Hem Woodland in Telford. It was a great day and all the team said how much they had enjoyed it.
