Last Tuesday (22 March) Mark Atkinson, from Press Shop, started his epic Swim 22 challenge in support of Diabetes UK.
For the next 12 weeks, up until the 22 June 2022, Mark will be swimming a total of 22 miles, which is the equivalent of the English Channel- or as Mark puts it, the equivalent of 1416 lengths of his local pool!
Mark, who claims he is not a “natural” swimmer, is jumping in at the deep end to raise as much money as possible for a charity that is close to his heart.
He said: “A few years ago I had Type 2 Diabetes myself and one of my close friends lost a family member due to complications with this disease, so I’m proud to be doing my bit.”
Asked how the challenge came about, Mark, said: “At the start of the year, I decided I wanted to get fitter and have lost 19lb in weight.
“I’m not a big swimmer normally but I liked the idea of challenging myself and it’s even better to know that I’m doing some good for a great cause like Diabetes UK at the same time.”
