In early February Halewood welcomed our first batch of young work experience students for this academic year.
We had a total of 12 young people from a variety of local schools, all eager to learn about the world of work in a modern manufacturing environment.
The students were teamed up in pairs and each pair spent the week in a different department of the factory, including:
- BIW
- VCATs
- Trim CME
- MP&L
- Press Shop
- Paint
All the students returned to the Education Centre at the end of the week, full of enthusiasm and praise for their mentors.
They then spent their last morning developing and presenting a Powerpoint slideshow about their experience. All of the presentations were brilliant, with one of our mentors making the comment:
“Brilliantly put together and a fantastic understanding of all the departments and processes. To think that they were here for just a week and what they picked up – outstanding!”
Congratulations and a big well done to each and every student.
We also received some fantastic feedback about the students from mentors and supervisors.
A huge vote of thanks must go to the mentoring teams – all volunteers - from each of the departments involved. Without the commitment and dedication of these mentors, the Work Experience programme at Halewood would simply not be a viable option. So ‘thank you’ to all involved – you know who you are.
