According to the World Health Organisation, every year globally 1.3 million die in car accidents, equivalent to eight jumbo jet crashes per day. Autonomous technologies can prevent these deaths.
Jaguar Land Rover is developing innovative solutions that aim to reduce accidents on our roads, helping to protect our employees, customers and the communities we all live in. Creating technology for good, with people at the heart of every decision we make.
Some innovative ways in which Jaguar Land Rover is pursuing a future with zero accidents are outlined below:
‘Human-centred technology - our first driver facing camera’
Our brains are computers, with a limited processing capacity. 94% of accidents are caused by human error, therefore, we focus on Human Machine Interface (HMI) technology to reduce the cognitive load. In the cabin of the future, our human-centred biometric artificial intelligence (AI) technology will enhance customer wellbeing and understand our state of mind while driving. Adapting the interior temperature, music levels and ambient lighting to reflect and react to the physical state of mind, in real time. Creating an optimal environment, a tranquil sanctuary.
‘The power of the senses - sensory steering wheel’
The human senses are one of the most powerful means of communication with our brains. We have partnered with Glasgow University to develop advanced technology for future steering wheels that taps into our innate sense of touch. Using heat as a communication tool to signal to the driver whether to turn left or right with our ‘turn by turn’ navigation system, our sensory steering wheel will help reduce driver distraction by keeping eyes on the road.
‘Seeing the unseen- our award -winning technology’
Our award-winning ClearSight Ground View and Rear mirror technologies, featured in the new Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, the new Land Rover Defender and Jaguar XE give the driver a unique ‘third eye’, an opportunity to see the previously unseen. The latest technology provides virtual high definition views of the surrounding environment, instilling the driver with greater levels of confidence when negotiating difficult parking spaces, navigating high city centre kerbs or tackling rough terrain.
