To kick off our 12 Days of Christmas campaign, we launched our first ever Halewood Foodbank Takeover last week in aid of Knowsley Foodbank- and within just a few hours of opening our doors we smashed our 1200 employee donation target!
The final tally was over 6,000 which will help to feed hundreds of families in Merseyside this Christmas- something which we should all feel incredibly proud of.
As well as food, employees also brought in essential toiletries, nappies and baby formula, all of which will make a huge difference to so many people in our local communities.
Jay Round, from Off Track, who set up the partnership with Knowsley Foodbank and took the driving seat with the takeover campaign, said: “I’ve been blown away by everyone’s support and can’t believe how generous people have been.
“As well as food, people have handed over their own money and organised collections which meant we could go out and buy all the extra things Knowsley Foodbank needed, such as bread and more toiletries which they were incredibly low on.
“One of our former employees, Peter Mircetic, even donated the money from a collection done by his teammates for his retirement which was so generous.
“A huge thank you as well to our Trade Union representatives who went to Costco and filled up their cars with donations- the level of support has been phenomenal from all over the plant.”
Mavis Sharkely, Volunteer Co-coordinator at Knowsley Foodbank, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Halewood for organising this incredible collection.
“These are hard times we are all going through but your kindness has put smiles on so many faces and will help us in our commitment to ensure that nobody in Knowsley goes hungry.”
The Halewood Foodbank Takeover may have come to an end but our support for Knowsley Foodbank will continue and there will now be a permanent food donation point in the Admin People Centre, so please continue to donate if you can.
Stay tuned to our Halewood Facebook page as we will be showcasing all the other fantastic charities our employees are supporting, as part of our 12 Days of Christmas initiative, which is helping us to make a huge difference to so many families in our local communities this Christmas.
