For the last few years, we’ve raised the rainbow flag with PRIDE here at Halewood and this year, our newly formed Halewood Diversity and Inclusion committee decided to throw in a game of PRIDE Ping Pong too, to mark the occasion.
These PRIDE inspired tables have been created by our talented Grand Designs volunteers, from upcycled materials found on site, to promote diversity and inclusion at Halewood.
The table is in addition to the four PRIDE themed outdoor benches, which have been built by the team and have been placed in different rest areas around the factory.
Trevor Leeks, Halewood Operations Director and JLR PRIDE ambassador said: “We are committed to creating a talented and diverse workforce at Halewood which is why we are proud to flying the flag and raising our PRIDE paddles on National Coming Out Day.
“As a committee, we are working together to help build a safe inclusive working environment for all our employees, where they can be their authentic selves, without fear of discrimination as a result of their gender identity, race or expression.
Trevor added: “The Grand Designs volunteers have done a fantastic job uplifting the factory, so this was a unique opportunity to team up with them again to do something special to mark today in style.
John Williams from Grand Designs said: “The feedback we have had from employees so far is that they have loved the improvements we have made to the site but they wanted us to build something interactive, so they could do an activity on their break times.
“That’s where the idea for the PRIDE ping pong tables came from. Everyone needs a bit of colour in their life which is why we decided to make them rainbow themed to bring to life all of the excellent work which has been done in the diversity and inclusion space at Halewood and to showcase the presence of our Pride network here on site on National Coming Out Day.”
