At the end of every break I always make a point of saying that I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and took the chance to recharge your batteries and catch up on some much deserved time with the family.
There’s been no time than now that it’s more heartfelt, given the level of events and activity that we’ve experienced at CB over the past few weeks.
We said farewell to an icon in XJ together with many long serving colleagues on that occasion. I was really touched by the way you all engaged with the event we arranged with everyone contributing to make the day a fitting tribute as well as grateful for the way you shared your stories on what the car has meant to you.
We then had the opportunity to welcome in the news that Castle Bromwich will be the UK’s first premium all-electric vehicle plant, starting with the re-imagining of XJ as our first all-electric vehicle, delivered because of significant investment in us by the business following our contribution and commitment to the plant’s future..
The early cost may be some disruption around the plant as we manage the huge transformation CB will undergo to deliver this very challenging programme. We will be on the cutting edge when it comes to premium electric vehicle technology and you will have seen around you just the start of what needs to happen in order to make that a reality.
I’m extremely excited, as you should be, at what the future can hold if we make the most of the opportunity that’s been given to us and that we’ve worked hard for.
I’ve also been impressed by the way you approached the Our Plant Our Future training during stand down and hope you can understand that a new future will need a refreshed approach from all us, both in the way we do business on the track and the way we do business with each other.
The industry-leading journey that we’re about to start on brings plenty of attention with it. There will be those that look at us in awe of the opportunity we have, and there will be those who will be looking to see how we can repay the faith shown in us through our performance for our customers and the business.
Castle Bromwich has a trend for making history.
Eighty years ago this year this site started making Spitfires which defined a generation of engineering.
Ten years ago we started building the all-aluminium XJ which paved the way to us becoming the world’s first all-aluminium plant.
Next year we become the first premium all-electric vehicle plant in the UK.
Let’s all do what we can to make sure that 80 years from now, people can fondly say that the electric revolution, like so many other points in history, started here.
