Introducing the XJ50, the perfect homage to celebrate 50 years of Jaguar’s flagship, luxurious performance saloon.
Launched at the Beijing Motor Show, this special edition
model will be available to buy in short and long wheelbase length, with
Autobiography front and rear bumpers, 20-inch venom alloys and black front
grille all fitted as standard. The XJ50 will also come with some bespoke
badging and be available in four striking colours – Fuji White, Santorini
Black, Loire Blue and Rosello Red.
Inside, there are soft-grain diamond-quilted leather seats,
XJ50 embossed centre armrest and badged treadplates, anodised paddle shifters
and bright metal pedals.
This special edition XJ is the perfect tribute to the
enduring style, luxury and performance the big saloon has come to stand for. Order
books are now open, with customers able to choose between a 3.0-litre petrol
and diesel engine producing 340PS and 300PS respectively, with prices starting
at £74,280.
Ian Callum, Jaguar’s Director of Design, said: “Spanning
half a century, the Jaguar XJ remains true to its heritage with a wonderful
balance of beautiful design, intelligent performance and indulgent luxury that
ensures it stands out from the crowd.
“This is a car worth celebrating and the XJ50 pays homage to
a giant within the Jaguar brand that we believe is one of the world’s most
stylish sporting saloons.”
The journey began back in 1968 with the Series 1 and eight
generations followed with each XJ recognised for its forward-thinking approach.
Fours years into production it was the only mass-produced 12-cylinder four-door
car with the ability to reach 140mph.
The Series 2 offered a two-door coupé shape in 1975, while
the XJ40 introduced the celebrated J-gate automatic transmission and
self-levelling suspension. By 2003, a revolutionary aluminium monocoque
bodyshell reduced the saloon’s weight by 40 percent, while the current
generation added all-wheel drive and a virtual instrument cluster to the
package.
